Corporate Responsibility
At Carbis Bay Estate, we pride ourselves on our continued corporate social responsibility journey. Below we have listed some of the key achievements that we have delivered over the years and initiatives that we continue to fulfil every day and into the future.
Our Journey
-
Blue Flag Status
Carbis Bay Beach has retained its ‘Blue Flag’ status for sixteen years. These awards demonstrate the consistent excellent quality of bathing waters and the Estate’s commitment to sustainability of our local environment and duty of care to the Blue Flag beach itself, its surroundings and marine life, over many years.
-
Seaside Award
Carbis Bay Estate has been awarded the Seaside Award since 2006. The seaside award criteria are assessed on information, water quality, environmental management, safety, and services.
-
Plastic Pathways & Promenade
Carbis Bay Estate was the first hotel in the world to have installed pathways and a promenade made from recycled plastics from the ocean, using, to date, the equivalent of some 3.5 million plastic straws.
-
Energy Centre
The Estate installed an on-site Energy Centre with two CHP (Combined Heat and Power Generators) which provide power for the hotel, spa, beach lodges, ocean venue, beach club complex, apartments, suites and cottages. The heat generated by the CHP units is harnessed to supply a constant flow of hot water providing energy efficient heating of all the estate hot tubs, swimming and hydro pools and hot water throughout the estate, this system eliminated at least 12 gas fired boilers and provides a carbon saving of approximately 70-80 tonnes per year.
-
Bamford
Carbis Bay Estate is delighted to introduce Bamford treatments and experiences to our award-winning C Bay Spa whilst using their products throughout the whole estate. Bamford’s holistic approach is based around a heartfelt connection with nature. C Bay Spa is Bamford’s first Spa partner in Cornwall, as we share with them a passion for nature, sustainability, and well-being.
-
Sustainable Water
The Estate works in partnership with Belu a sustainable water supplier who put profits back into saving carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere, championing a circular economy and ending water poverty. The Estate partners with Belu Water. By serving Belu pure filtered water, 50% of each sale goes towards WaterAid.
-
Air Ambulance
Carbis Bay Estate is delighted to be in partnership with Cornwall Air Ambulance. It is not widely known that Cornwall Air Ambulance is only able to operate due to the generosity of donations from commercial and individual sponsors. As one of the leading hospitality providers in Cornwall we feel obligated to support this vital emergency service to not only the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly community but to all our visitors to the region during peak periods.
-
Origin Coffee
Our chosen supplier for coffee is Origin a local Cornish certified B Corporation business. B Corp is the only certification that measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance. We use compostable coffee pods in our guest in-room coffee machines. All waste fresh ground coffee is collected for composting from the Estate.
-
Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust
Carbis Bay Estate also partners with Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust (CSGRT) and British Divers Marine Life Rescue – charities who work hard to protect the wonderful seals we have here in Carbis Bay. The estate supports these charities through financial contributions and we provide space for their promotional and educational content.
-
Local Suppliers
Our focus is on supporting local, Cornish suppliers for food purchasing reducing food miles wherever possible.
-
Waste Management
The waste generated from guests and beach users is sorted on site to minimise landfill and maximise recycling.
-
Hospitality Tablets
Crave in room hospitality tablets are used across all accommodation to reduce the need to print individual folders and brochures.
