Forget crowded beaches and battling for parking spaces, experience Cornwall in all its magical beauty, in a County that seems to be there just for you!
Cornwall is beautiful through all of the seasons, but as the northern hemisphere begins to wind down into hibernation, Carbis Bay comes into its own.
Here are just 10 reasons to visit Carbis Bay this autumn & winter...
1. The beaches are blissfully quiet
Cornish beaches come into their own when the temperatures dip. Bikini clad bathers make way for cosy walkers wrapped up in their winter woolies. You might have to share the beach with the odd dog walker or surfer dashing for the crashing waves, but believe us; they’ll be few and far between.
2. Spot the local sea life
Carbis Bay is rich in sea life and the quieter season (from September onwards) is the perfect time of the year to get out and head for the coast to marvel in seal sightings and delight in pods of dolphins frolicking in the surf.
To get a closer view, there are wildlife safaris which run from the Ocean Sports Centre located on Carbis Bay Beach or you may even find yourself swimming within a few feet of one in the waters at the bay!
3. Enjoy great coastal walks
With great weather comes great walking conditions and there are hundreds of miles of footpaths to explore (including the South West Coastal Path which runs in front of the hotel and onto St Ives). Twin this with less people and you could have a stretch of coast path all to yourself.
4. Relax in our cosy C Bay Spa
A cosy fire, a snug sofa (with stunning ocean views) and a hot sauna are the key elements of a great wintry afternoon and the C Bay Spa has got it all!
So while away the winter blues as you embrace the beneficial effects of rejuvenating spa treatments on your mind and body, so that you can return home entirely revitalised.
5. Storm watching at The Beach Club
Visit Carbis Bay at its most spectacular over the winter months when Atlantic storms buffer our rugged coastline. A blustery walk is nothing without a hot chocolate stop so enjoy the thrill of watching the waves from the comfort of our cosy Beach Club, located on the sands of Carbis Bay Beach.
6. Dog-friendly beaches
During the summer most of the beaches in Cornwall are off limits to dogs during peak times, but as soon as the end of October rolls around these sandy stretches become your dog’s playground. Your four-legged friends can take their pick of beaches to run, fetch, swim and generally have a barking good time.
7. See a different side to St Ives
In St Ives, you can enjoy the blissfully quiet beaches of Porthmeor, Porthgwidden, Harbour and Porthminster. Take an early morning walk along Porthminster at low tide all the way to the harbour and the lifeboat station, then pause for a piping hot pasty (just watch out for the seagulls!).
8. The spectacular sunsets
From the cliffs to the coastline, Carbis Bay turns into a carnival of orange and red at this time of year. What is usually green or purple turns to fire and the whole landscape changes from lush to dramatic.
Searching for the perfect place to soak up these beautiful sunsets? Look no further than Restaurant 1894 - perched above the sands overlooking St Ives Bay, Restaurant 1894 offers an exceptional dining experience featuring an impressive menu studded with world-class local ingredients and views of stunning sunsets and the changing phases of the ocean.
9. Surf's up
A winter break to Carbis Bay is ideal for surfers. Waves swell across the Cornish coast driven by low pressure systems off the Atlantic, creating a vast, exhilarating surfers’ playground. Or friends at Global Boarders have everything for an exhilarating day on the waves.
10. Relax in our cosy beachside accommodation
Keep toasty on a wintery night in one of our cosy beachside properties. All the comfort of a chic coastal pad with the magic touch of having the beach right on your doorstep. Cuddle up in the glow of the roaring fire or warm yourself in the bubbles of the hot tub with views out over the winter seascape.
